Eyes That See

“I Once Was Blind”

Commanded to Go

I think that the natural mindset of American Christians is that we must first have sufficient reason and/or a clear calling to become a missionary.  (I have heard this in multiple different places, and am just reproducing others’ thoughts here, but…) Because we are commanded to go, our mindset should be the exact opposite.

Rather than thinking we should stay unless we have suffient reason or a clear call to go, we should realize that we are commanded to go.  Therefore, unless we have sufficient reason and/or a clear call to stay, our natural mindset should be to go!

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” -Matthew 28:18-20

With our clear command to go, what reason and/or what calling do you have to stay?  That should be the mindset that we have toward missions.  Oh, and by the way, Jesus said that if you love Him, you will keep His commandments:

“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” -John 14:15

What, then, has He commanded us to do?

  • Go
  • Make Disciples
  • Baptize Them in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
  • Teach Them to Observe All that He Commanded (Including teaching them to Go, Make Disciples, Baptize Them, and Teach Them.)

So, two questions:  Do you love Him? And, are you keeping His commandments?
