Eyes That See

“I Once Was Blind”

Praise God for “The Woodchucks”

I rarely ascribe the phrase “righteous anger” to anyone other than God, but earlier this evening that phrase was appropriate.  My friend Aaron Sherman, a fellow seminarian at SBTS, went on a rant about the divide between theology and life here at Southern.  He was telling a group of students not to lock themselves in their rooms and be eggheads while people suffer without the gospel all around us here in Louisville, both on and off campus.

His righteous anger at meaningless theology- that which does not journey from our minds to our hearts- led us to, for one night at least, get off our collective gluteus maximus, off campus, and onto the Louisville streets.  Lord willing, it will not be a one-night-wonder and we will by the grace of God be faithful stewards of our time and manage our studies so that we can, out of our love for Christ Jesus and His sheep, obey the Great Commission faithfully.

Things were awkward for many, if not all, of us, and we often looked like fools.  But for what better cause could we make ourselves awkward fools?  Aaron came up with a great, albeit indubitably random, name for our evangelism group: “The Woodchucks.”  By the grace of God, in the power of the Spirit, and for the sake of the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, “The Woodchucks” will be faithful, fervant fools for Christ and His gospel.  May the Lord use our foolishness, as we seek to proclaim the wisdom of God, which is foolishness to those who disbelieve, and may His kingdom come!

  1. Amen to this post! May God use the Woodchucks far beyond what you guys imagine. Way to take that head information to streets. I once heard Howard Hendricks mention that it seems as if the people with the most biblical knowledge don’t share the gospel very often while those with just a small dose of biblical knowledge seem to share their “partial-Gospel” with everyone. I’m glad the Southern Woodchucks are laboring well in both sound biblical doctrine and fervant zeal to share it.

Where are you going to be living in Louisville? We still have an open room, although your commute is a little further than before.

  2. B-time,

I’m living on campus. There is a lady who teaches here that lives in Texas. Maybe I can fly back and forth with her. And I’m not sure that Steph would like all the things I would want to teach “Willy Silly.”
