Eyes That See

“I Once Was Blind”

“The Misery of Job and the Mercy of God”

John Piper wrote and read four poems that tell the story of Job.  Well, maybe.  As I said in my post on his poem “Ezekiel’s Wife,” Piper takes some literary freedom with the actual text of the Bible.  However, I believe that there are few men who have a better understanding of God, as He has revealed himself to us in the Scriptures, than John Piper.  So, although his account of Job may or may not be the way Job’s story actually played out, these poems faithfully portray the God of the Bible.

May these four poems be as encouraging and enjoyable for you as they were for me!

Job, Part 1
Job, Part 2
Job, Part 3
Job, Part 4

May we learn to worship God in the midst of suffering and trials, as Job did and as James exhorts us to, and may we say with Job, regardless of whether the Lord gives or takes away, that we know that our Redeemer lives!
